Coronary Angiography and Angioplasty

This procedure involves the passage of a catheter into a blood vessel in to the arm or leg, advancing the catheter in to the heart and its arteries. A dye is injected which enables visualization of the heart, its valves and its arteries. Any narrowing of the heart arteries or valve problems can be determined with this test. Dr. Khurana is one of the few cardiologists performing this procedure via the radial approach, which has several advantages.

Coronary Angioplasty and Stenting

Coronary artery blockages are treated with balloon angioplasty and stenting. Patients may require different devices to unclog the arteries depending on the nature of blockages. Dr Khurana is very skilled in the use of

1) Balloon Angioplasty
2) Stenting of complex stenosis including left main artery stenosis
3) Rotational Atherectomy
4) Laser Atherectomy
5) Mechanical and Pharmacological Thrombectomy

Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS)

This procedure involves advancing a tiny transducer within the heart arteries to visualize the extent and nature of the plaque. This also helps to determine which plaques are likely to rupture and cause heart attacks.

Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR)

For coronary blockages that have intermediate stenosis a wire is inserted in to the coronary artery to measure the pressure difference between the area before and beyond the blockage. This has become a very useful procedure to reduce unnecessary stenting.
