Dr Charanjit Singh Khurana has distinguished himself and earned the respect of his peers and colleagues. Having worked in three different continents, he has a diverse and extensive medical experience. He went to medical school in Bombay at the Grant Medical College, followed by postgraduate training at the J.J. Group of hospitals in Bombay. He acquired further training in cardiology in England and he was elected a member of the Royal College of Physicians. In the United States, while completing his residency at the Cleveland Clinic, he received the Internal Medicine Residents Research Award. During his Cardiology fellowship at George Washington University, he won the prestigious Cardiology Fellows Forum of Excellence Award. He is Board Certified in Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology and Diagnostic Vascular Sonography.
He has been practicing as an interventional Cardiologist and a vascular specialist in the Northern Virginia area since 2003.
Dr. Khurana has co-authored several articles in prestigious peer reviewed medical journals. He serves on the editorial board of the journal of cardiothoracic surgery. He continues to participate actively in pharmaceutical and device research and is the principal investigator of numerous clinical trials. These programs offer patients the opportunity to benefit from state of the art emerging technologies and medications.
Dr. Khurana is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at George Washington University Hospital. He is an enthusiastic teacher and engages in teaching programs both for medical students, medical residents and nurses at Virginia Hospital Center and Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Dr. Khurana has performed over 1500 interventional procedures on the coronary arteries including balloon angioplasties, stenting, rotational and laser atherectomy. He has also performed over 500 peripheral interventions to open obstructed carotid, kidney and lower extremity arteries using cutting edge devices. He has served as the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the Virginia Hospital Center for over 5 years.
He has been involved in several community education projects, lectures and special events. In addition, Dr. Khurana is an Executive Committee Member and the past President of the Virginia Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin, which plans educational programs and social events designed to serve the community.
He is a strong believer in prevention of disease, patient education and tailoring care according to individual needs. His practice interests include prevention and treatment of heart disease, carotid artery disease and stroke prevention, circulation problems in the lower extremities and hypertension.
He lives in the Northern Virginia area with his wife who is on the Internal Medicine Faculty at the George Washington University along with their two sons.
